Discernment Therapy
Helping couples find clarity about their relationship.
If you or your spouse are considering divorce but are not completely sure of the best path, Discernment therapy is designed for you. It’s a chance to slow down, take a breath, and look at your options for your marriage.
Do You or Your Spouse Question Next Steps in Your Relationship?
Discernment Therapy is a new way of helping couples where one person is “leaning out” of the relationship—and not sure that regular marriage counseling or therapy would help–and the other is“leaning in”—that is, interested in rebuilding the marriage.
Discernment Therapy is Different than Traditional Couples Therapy
Discernment Therapy helps you and your partner decide on whether to try to restore your relationship, move towards divorce, or pause, take time and decide later.
The goal is to gain clarity and confidence. We do not solve your marital problems, but rather to see if they are solvable.
How Discernment Therapy Works
The Discernment counselor takes time to work with you one-to-one, Why? Because you are starting out at different places.
The counselor respects the option of divorce, while trying to open up the possibility of restoring the relationship to health.
We look at each partner’s contribution to both the problem and possible solutions. This will be useful in future relationships, even if this one ends.
We meet for one to five sessions. The first session lasts two hours and the following 90 minutes. Insurance does not cover Discernment Therapy.
